Oberwölz – Schöttlkapelle – Schöttlalm – Glattjoch – Oberwölz
#Oberwölz, #Lower Tauern, #Styria, #Austria
The goal for our day out
Anita from Kanaltal Culture Trails and Florian from erwandert would like to follow in the footsteps of Irish monks in the Lower Tauern with you. The starting point is Oberwölz, which gives the Wölzer Tauern its name. Here you can find accommodation ranging from beautifully located campsites to rustic mountain huts and upscale sports hotels. As a supporting program you can include Rothenfels Castle, the leisure center and the medieval town center.
Historical and geographical topics are increasingly addressed on our hike. From Oberwölz we will first drive by car to the Schöttlkapelle car park. Our hike starts from there. We first follow the Schöttlbach on a gravel road to the end of the valley (Luxenhütte). We then follow a mountain hiking trail via the Schöttlalm (difficulty level red = medium, without exposed areas) up to the Glattjoch. This is where the destination of our hike is – the Glattjoch Chapel. After hearing some exciting historical information and taking a leisurely lunch break (weather permitting), we will return on the same route.
During the tour we would like to provide you with all sorts of historical and geographical background knowledge on topics that arise during the tour and discuss them with you.
